Murphy’s Tree, A Tribute in Beads

In late January 2015, I lost my beloved cat, Murphy, suddenly and unexpectedly. One minute he was fine and the next he was lying dead on the floor near my chair. He was two months shy of his ninth birthday.

I was devastated. He was the sweetest cat I have ever known and he loved everyone he met.

Shortly after he died, I started this project and before I knew it, I was beading a tree of life. I came to understand a few months later that I was beading Murphy’s Tree.

I’ve been working on it for nearly a year now and it’s still not finished. It is truly a labor of love pieced together with semi-precious stones, glass, wood, crystal, leather, and thread.

I still need to add beaded root dangles to the bottom of the piece, as well as bead a connecting collar and clasp. It is far from finished, but the front beading turned out so beautifully that I wanted to share it with you.

Here’s my tribute to my sweetsie boy, who loved me through the roughest period of my life, and left a hole in my heart and on my lap when he left departed this world too soon.
